Presidency College, Madras Seeks NAAC Accreditation

Presidency College, Madras has been operating without the accreditation of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the past six years which became a hindrance for the Institute to get funds from University Grants Commission (UGC). The college has been struggling for funds. NAAC accreditation is mandatory to get funds from UGC. Currently, the institute is taking initiatives to get accreditation. The authorities are in the process of preparing a self-study (SSP).

Mr. T Pramananda Perumal, Principal of the College said that the SSP is likely to be submitted by November, and NAAC team may visit the college in the month of December. He mentioned that the college is facing difficulties in seeking funds as all the financial grants are linked to NAAC. The primary motive of the institute is to get accreditation by nex academic year, i.e., 2017-2018.

He criticised his predecessors who did not maintain the accounts properly and are responsible for such a big lapse. He mentioned that the details related to expenditure were not maintained according to the norms of UGC.

He said that the another biggest challenge faced by the college is a continuous change of principals. A total number of 13 principals have been changed in the past 15 years. All of them were in-charge principals, and there was no planned system of administration. He mentioned that a principal must hold the office for at least two years to promote efficiency in administration.
