President Appoints David Syiemlieh as Chairman of UPSC
Since June 25, 2012, David Syiemlieh has been carrying out his duties as a member of UPSC. Now, he will assume the charge in place of Alka Sirohi, retired IAS officer. Sirohi belongs to Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, appointed David Syiemlieh as the Chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). He has been appointed to carry out the duties of the post of chairman. He is from Meghalaya and was a member of UPSC. He will assume the post as Chairman of UPSC on January 4, 2017. His retirement will be on January 21, 2018.

Former Chairman of UPSC, Deepak Gupta demitted the office on 21-September 2016. Later, Pranab Mukherjee appointed Alka Sirohi as the new Chairman of UPSC. She will retire from her responsibility on January 3, 2017.
Alka Sirohi also served as the Secretary of Department of Personel and Training. She was also a member of UPSC. Usually, the President appoints Chairman from the serving members of UPSC. However, UPSC broke the tradition of appointing Chairperson among the serving members in 2014. President appointed Deepak Gupta as the Chairman of UPSC who was a non-serving member of UPSC.

UPSC is headed by a Chairman and consists of ten members. The main responsibility of UPSC is to hold various examinations like IPS, IAS and IFS.
Recently, UPSC announced that it would accept multiple versions of answers in the essay paper that was conducted as a part of Civils Main Examination 2016. The examination took place on December 3, 2016.
