President Mukherjee Presents Awards to Top Institutes of NIRF India Rankings 2017

Honorable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, recently presented awards to the top-ranking institutions as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2017.
The top 10 colleges/universities of all categories i.e. Top 10 Engineering Colleges, Top 10 Management Colleges, Top 10 Pharmacy Colleges, Top 10 Universities, Top 10 Colleges, Top 10 Overall were awarded at the ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

While addressing the gathering on the occasion, Shri Pranab Mukherjee emphasized on the fact that the higher education sector of the country has witnessed massive and significant expansion in the last two decades. He added that the number of universities, IITs, NITs, IIITs, degree colleges etc. have only increased in this time. However, on the other hand, he also said that at present, there are some other issues as well which must be addressed.
Some problems/loopholes highlighted by President Mukherjee in his speech:
- Lack of availability of quality teachers
- Retention of Indian talent in the country because of less advanced facilities, opportunities, and environment (brain drain issue)
Highlighting the praiseworthy work of Higher Education System in India, he said that the institutes have the capabilities as well as qualities that are necessary to make it to the top of the world rankings as well. NIRF, an effort of the HRD Ministry, is the medium through which institutes will be able to realize its potential and further emerge as among the world-class institutes, he said.

Further, Mr. Mukherjee also released the official report of NIRF India Rankings 2017. He said that NIRF India Rankings 2017 has now become a success as it an effort to improve the existing quality of education, thereby making it different from NAAC which is only the accreditation and assessment body of the country.
