Private Colleges in Kerala to Oppose Admissions Via NEET Exam

Admissions of students is causing conflicts between CPIM-led LDF government and private self-financing medical college managements in Kerala.
It was decided by the government earlier that all seats including those under the management and NRI quotas in private medical colleges will be filled via the listings of the NEET merit list. This decision has not been welcomed by the institutes and has been the reason behind angry protests private managements in the state.

Instead, it has been decided by the Kerala Private Medical College Management Association to challenge the government direction to the state Commissioner of Entrance Examination to start counselling process for admission to private medical colleges and deemed universities.
According to P Krishnadas who is the association president, private colleges managements will move the High Court challenging government directive in a day or two. He also said that they are against the government decision of taking over the entire admission process in their hands. They will be conducting admissions of students via the NEET merit list.

He also pointed out that the new order by the government was against the rights granted by the constitution to the private medical colleges and they do not want to argue or fight the government, instead they would like to discuss the same with the government to come up at a reasonable conclusion.
Including the four institutes under Christian management, there are a total of 22 private medical colleges in the state.
According to the order issued by the government last night, the admission for the seats will be completed in the following manner:
- 50 per cent merit seats- Kerala entrance examination 2016
- 35 per cent seats- management quota
- 15 per cent NRI seats from NEET list.
