Private Colleges in Punjab Face Problem Due to Non Releasing of Scholarship Funds
Punjab Government has not released the post matric scholarship funds of schedule caste and OBC category students.
Till now the Punjab Government has not released the post matric scholarship funds of schedule caste and OBC category students. Since 95% of students in Punjab study in Private unaided colleges, these colleges face the threat of closing down due to lack of funds.

The matter was further discussed in detail in a meeting consisting of the following parties:
- The Joint Action Committee comprising Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA)
- Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA)
- BEd Federation
- ITI Association
- ETT Federation
- Degree College Association
- Nursing College Association
- Polytechnic Association and education forum

Earlier, the unaided colleges were asked not to extract any money from the SC/OBC students as a part of the scholarship. The order was then followed by the colleges without any problem. Not only this, the colleges even paid the examination fee of these students from its own funds But this lead to a decrease in the funds of the colleges in Punjab as the money from the government was not released. The money to be paid by the government sums up to Rs. 80 crore for as many as 2,86,000 students of the 2014-15 batch and approximately, Rs. 400 crore of 3 lakh students of the 2015-16 batch. Due to lack of funds at these colleges, they are not able to pay the salaries of the faculty members on time.
