Private Law Colleges under OU to get 3-year Affiliation from 2019-20

Private Law Colleges that are affiliated under Osmania University will be receiving an affiliation for three years instead of the one-year affiliation that was earlier provided to them. This step was taken to combat the delays that have taken place in the previous years in the admission process.

Osmania University and the Bar Council of India have decided to offer a three-year affiliation to the private colleges that offer law courses under Osmania University from the next academic year. The step has been taken to reduce the time that it takes for the admission process in one of these colleges.

In previous years, private colleges offering law courses under Osmania University were receiving a one-year affiliation only. The affiliation was given to the private colleges after inspections were conducted by Osmania University as well as the Bar Council of India. This always resulted in a delay in the admission process. The vice-chancellor of Osmania University, Prof. S Ramachandram said in a statement that the step has been taken in the ‘larger interest of the students’. This step will also prevent the students from moving out of the state for other admission opportunities, he added.

Last year, after the Telangana Law Common Entrance Test (TS Law CET) and the Post Graduate Law Common Test (PG Law CET), was conducted, the counselling process for the admission process started after four months of wait. This wait was caused as the list of affiliated colleges wasn’t made available.

According to the rules set by the Bar Council of India, the longest period for approval of affiliation that is given to law colleges in India is about 5 years. Osmania University has decided to give the private colleges an affiliation of three years. They have also decided that along with collecting the annual fee for inspection, they will also be conducting inspections annually. They also stated that there will be surprise inspections as well. This will be done so as to check that the colleges under their affiliation follow the norms set by OU. Failure of adhering to the norms of OU will result in the cancellation of their affiliation
