Proposal Received for 163 AYUSH Medical Colleges: Union Minister Shripad Naik
The Minister of State for AYUSH informed that the government has received 163 proposals from the State and Union Territory governments to start AYUSH medical colleges.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for AYUSH informed that the government has received 163 proposals from the State and Union Territory governments to start AYUSH medical colleges. These proposals were received in the year 2016-17.
Among these 163 proposals, 108 were for Ayurveda colleges, 45 for Homeopathy and 9 for Unani colleges. A total of 159 of these proposals were accepted and have been forwarded for approval of the Central Regulatory Councils. Whereas, 4 were declined as they were not in agreement with the regulations set by the regulatory body.

There are a total of 607 AYUSH Medical colleges in the country. Among these, there are 341 Ayurveda colleges, 52 Unani colleges, 10 Siddha institutes as well as 204 colleges for Homeopathy.
The minister also informed that the AYUSH Medical colleges are supported by both central and state governments under the centrally sponsored National AYUSH Mission (NAM) and Public Health Initiatives (PHI) schemes.
According to the minister, Rs. 161.9 Lakh were released in 2015-16 for the development and maintenance of to AYUSH colleges. The funds were released by the Central Government under the Public Health Initiative (PHI) initiative.

Also, in 2016-17, Rs. 90.8 Lakh were released constituting to a total grant of Rs. 252.7. The minister also informed that a total of Rs. 7579.2 Lakh were released under the National AYUSH Mission. The money was released for the promotion of AYUSH Colleges and Ayurveda education.
