PU launches digitised doctoral theses

Panjab University (PU) launched the digitised versions of its doctoral theses. The digitised theses that are now available on the Shodhganga repository were launched by PU Vice-Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover.

Now the doctoral theses of PU scholars will now become accessible within the PU campus on the intranet, and will also be globally accessible through the Shodhganga repository on the internet.

Last year PU had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Information and Library Network Centre (NFLIBNET), Gandhinagar, to improve the way theses and dissertations were handled by the varsity. Under the MoU, all dissertations and theses done by the students/faculty of PU have now electronically been made available to other universities registered under the project.

Present at the luncheon ceremony were PU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Arun Kumar Grover, Director of INFLIBNET, Dr Jagdish Arora, Director of PU’s Research Promotion Cell O P Katare, PU Registrar Col G S Chadha (Retd), Controller of Examinations Professor Parvinder Singh, Dean College and Development Council Professor Naval Kishore, University Librarian Dr Raj Kumar and large number of PU employees

A user-awareness programme on Shodhganga was also organized on the occasion and over 200 faculty members, research scholars and library professionals from across the region participated in the function.

PU VC Professor Grover highlighted the contribution of former UGC Chairperson Professor Yashpal in the setting up of Inter-University Centers and especially INFLIBNET center. He emphasised the role of INFLIBNET center in higher education and highlighted the importance of Shodhganga in terms of providing access to scholarly content.

“Uploading Ph.D. theses on Shodhganga was the dream project of the universities, and with this, research scholars from across the world will now get access to scholarly content of PU,” said Dr. Jagdish Arora
