PU to Not Conduct Entrance Exam 2020 for Law Admissions
The entrance exam for five years and three years long law courses at PU has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Earlier, the admission process for B.Com/BA LLB was suspended but the varsity has finally decided to drop the exam for academic session 2020-2021.
Panjab University has cancelled the entrance exam for UG and PG level law courses amid the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the nation. After a statement released by the high court to reconsider the decision, the university was at loggerheads but upon reviewing the total number of applications, the fewer number of entrance exam centres and high risk due to COVID-19, PU has decided to cancel the exam for 2020-2021.
Earlier, Panjab University had temporarily suspended the admission process of B.Com LLB and BA LLB programmes. The process of admission was interrupted after the varsity came up with the decision to cancel PU UG LAW entrance exam 2020 amid the nation-wide coronavirus outbreak. Some candidates displayed their disagreement towards the decision by filing a petition against it and the matter reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Following the petition, the court asked the Panjab University to reconsider its decision to cancel the exam.
The university released a notification on September 4, 2020, addressing the issue. The notice stated that the varsity has decided to suspend the admission to the B.Com LLB and BA LLB courses until further notice as per the directions of the Hon'ble High Court. As per the latest notification, PU has finally decided to not conduct an entrance exam for the academic session 2020-2021 due to the high risk of the virus and no multiplicity of entrance test centres.

The petition filed on September 1, 2020, raised questions on the decision of Panjab University to cancel the entrance exam for the 5-year law course. It stated that the institute is conducting entrance exams for 3-year law course for the same academic session which makes it invalid to cancel the exam for the integrated law courses. The petition further added that considering class 12th result as the sole criterion for admission to the 5-year law course is unreasonable and unreliable.
After taking all the accounts and concerns into consideration, Panjab University has finally decided to cancel the entrance exam for 2020-2021. The decision was taken keeping in mind the safety/precautionary measures because of COVID pandemic and the interest of the students at large.
