Law College to Be Upgraded as University in Puducherry, Says CM Narayanasamy
B.R. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry is in the process to be upgraded into a university. CM says that the bill has been prepared for upgradation.
The government is planning on upgrading the 47-year-old Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Law Government College into a law university. The Chief Minister of Union Territory of Puducherry, V Narayanasamy claims that the necessary bill has been prepared for upgradation and that the government college will be upgraded into a university. He further adds that the government college will be converted into a university as good as the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru very soon.
Inaugurating a faculty training programme on “capacity building for law teacher” at the college, the Chief Minister believes that the college has the potential to emerge as a great law university.
While recalling his days in the government law college in Chennai, Narayanasamy says that teachers need to upgrade their skills in order to raise good lawyers. He also urged the teachers hailing from the North States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh to learn Tamil so that students from rural areas can also be benefitted from their knowledge.

He said that the government of Puducherry is committed to the welfare of the lawyers and is also setting up welfare funds for advocates. Revenue and Higher Education Minister M O H F Shah Jahan was also present in the event.
Once the government college will get expanded into a university, it will experience multiple changes and benefits that will provide the college nationwide recognition. Law courses have gained immense popularity in the past few years and in every academic cycle, students from all over the country give several law entrance examinations in order to get admission to the top law colleges of India.
