Department of English (Savitribai Phule Pune University) is organizing a three-day international conference on “Translation Studies: New Direction” from January 23 to January 25, 2018 in Pune.
Savitribai Phule Pune University earlier known as University of Pune or University of Poona, was established in 1949 and This university was named after a well known social reformer of 19th Century Savitribai Phule. Savitribai Phule Pune University has 43 departments. Its lush green campus spread over 411 acres.
Department of English of Savitribai Phule Pune University is one of the well-known research centres in western India. A large number of international students from countries like Iran, Iraq, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, South Africa, Turkmenistan, Thailand and China visit this elite university.

In the recent few decades, discipline of Translation Studies has shown a huge growth, both as academic programme and global practice. Translation studies have encountered social and cultural turns since mid twentieth century, & also embraced large number intercultural encounters. In additon, interacting with many disciplines such as comparative literature, linguistics, creative writing, cultural studies, gender studies, Dalit studies, post colonial studies, film studies, philosophy, sociology, musicology, and many more makes it one of the most coveted courses to seat.
