Punjab Government to Clear Pending Scholarships

The Chief Minister of Punjab announced the release of Rs 118.42 crores in order to clear the baclog of the pending scholarship for students belonging to the Scheduled Caste category.

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Amarinder Singh on 25th June 2019 ordered the Department of Finance to release a humongous amount of Rs 118.42 crores with the aim of clearing scholarship funds for scheduled caste college students which have been in backlog for quite a long period of time now. These students study in 634 colleges in the State of Punjab.

The Chief Minister had a meeting with MLA of Jalandhar West, Mr Sushil Kumar Rinku and Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot who is the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister of the State of Punjab. It is after this meeting that the CM announced his decision on clearing up the backlog of scholarship funds.

According to the reports the sum of scholarship money is to be divided where Rs 67.42 crore will be released for students pursuing their academics in 312 colleges which includes technical, medical and degree colleges. The rest 51 crores is to be distributed in the form of scholarship among the students of 322 colleges in similar streams as well as students of School Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) Institute.

It has also been heard that the Chief Minister of Punjab also directed the Finance Department to release the fund as early as possible. This is a big step towards helping the scheduled caste students who really need the money for completing their higher education in a seamless manner.
