Punjab Government to Open 13 New Colleges – State Education Minister

In an effort to boost the higher education sector Punjab government is going to open another 13 new government colleges in the state in this current financial year.

Of the 13 colleges, 2 colleges will be professional, 2 Model Degree and rest of the 9 are Degree colleges, reports Surjit Singh Rakhra, Higher Education Minister of the state.

“Already the construction work of these colleges was in full swing. One professional, two model degree and nine other colleges would be started from the current session 2016-17. Of these 2 professional and 2 model degree colleges would start in collaboration with Rashtriya Uchttam Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA),” the minister informed.

Around Rs, 26 cores would be invested into two professional Government colleges- Punjab Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar and Punjab Aeronautical College of Engineering, Patiala each.

“Punjab state has contributed the excess share of Rs 6.47 crore, besides contributing its share in proportion to the ratio of 60:40 as center and state share. Around the 70 per cent construction work of Punjab Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar has been done and from the current academic session the classes would be held,” said the minister.

Although the construction works of Punjab Aeronautical College of Engineering, Patiala would be completed this year but the academia would start from the next session.

The construction work of these colleges has been completed and the admission process in these colleges would start in arts, science and commerce streams from the current session.

While keeping in the education scenario in rural areas government would construct nine more government colleges in rural areas like -Dharamkot (Moga), Sujanpur (Pathankot), Bahadarpur (Mansa), Barnala, Phillaur (Jalandhar), Nakodar (Jalandhar), Moonak (Sangrur).Dhuri (Sangrur), Kishankot (Gurdaspur)etc.
