Punjab Names Medical College After Ambedkar
As a tribute to the B.R. Ambedkar, the Punjab Cabinet has decided to rename the Government Medical College in Mohali as Dr. B.R. Ambdekar State Institute of Medical Sciences.
To pay tribute to the father of the Indian Constitution, B.R. Ambedkar, the Punjab Cabinet on 18th February 2020 has decided to rename the Government Medical College in Mohali as Dr. B.R. Ambdekar State Institute of Medical Sciences.
According to the reports, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office has confirmed the same stating the upcoming medical college in Mohali will serve the government's objective of providing affordable healthcare to all and side by side giving medical aspirants with an opportunity to pursue a career in the field of medical education.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that a new medical college will be set up in Mohali with 100 MBBS seats under the centrally sponsored scheme of Establishment of New Medical College attached with the existing Referral/District Hospitals having a total of more 200 beds for the patients.
The State Government further informed that they have created 994 posts for 100 seats of MBBS course at the new medical college along with the permission to fill all these posts in a phased manner.
The establishment of a new Medical College will ensure quality and affordable healthcare for the public. It will also serve as an opportunity for medical aspirants who wish to pursue MBBS.
