- The MoU shall be valid for three years and could be renewed or extended by mutual written consent
Punjabi University, located in Patiala has entered into a significant collaboration and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Fraser Valley (Canada) for recognising mutual benefits through a cooperative programme promoting scholarly activities and international understanding. The MoU will be applicable for 3 years. However, the period of MoU might be extended by mutual written consent.
The major objective of this significant MoU is to promote global academic partnership and integration between Punjabi University and the University of Fraser Valley to meet the requirements for cultivating international professionals. The MoU further states that the societies being marked by all sorts of interconnectedness, diversity and complexity, require the students to be intercultural and internationally competent to live and work efficiently and taking mutual advantage of educational resources, providing for expansion and development of education markets.

The MoU will also play a vital role in facilitating cooperative academic activities like:
- Exploration of common research interest
- Exchange of publications and materials of common interest
- Student exchange programmes
- Faculty visits
- Lectures or conferences
- Seminars

The MoU will also focus on other potential areas like development of a specific examination centre for local Canadian students based on:
- Religion and Diaspora Programmes
- Cultural Studies Curriculum Development
- Online system and Summer Intensive Punjabi Language
Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Professor BS Ghuman and Vice Chancellor & President of University of Fraser Valley (Canada), Dr. Jackie Hogan signed the MoU on November 3, 2017.
