Queen's University Belfast Signs an MoU with Tezpur University in Assam for Ph.D Programmes
Queen's University Belfast has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tezpur University in Assam. This collaboration is to help students avail more opportunities in their doctorate programmes.
The Queen’s University Belfast is one of the leading universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has recently been in the news for accepting the scores of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for admitting students. Queen’s University Belfast signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tezpur University of Assam.
The MoU between these two universities has been signed in order to jointly supervise all the doctoral programmes of the coming five years. It will provide an opportunity to the scholars of Tezpur University to commence their Ph.D studies at Queen's University Belfast from September this year.
This collaboration will also give opportunities for the exchange of students and staff for the purposes of research, study, and teaching. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, Ian Greer, and the Vice-Chancellor of Assam’s Tezpur University, Vinod Kumar Jain. The MoU states that the primary scope of the alliance will be in the field of research and in aligning with the assets and strengths of both universities.

The research areas of interest that have been identified as of now are mainly within the field of engineering. However, the universities are expecting the research areas from other faculties to also be explored gradually.
Ian Greer addressed the members present during the event and said that the university shares a relationship with India that is long-standing. He also said that the authorities at Queen’s University are committed to providing assistance to Indian students in helping them realise their career aspirations. The capacity building programme that has been rolled out with the Tezpur University in Assam is initiated in line with this vision.
Greer also said that their focus in India consists of preparing students for citizenship and leadership in a global society while ensuring that they are capable of recognising that every country and region has its unique strategic development priorities.

Ian Green had come to India for a three-day visit along with his delegation from Belfast. He met and interacted with representatives belonging to a number of corporations and institutions in the country.
