The students studying in the Tamil Nadu govt. schools have now got a reason to celebrate as TN State Cabinet approved an ordinance introducing a 7.5% horizontal reservation in the state government's quota of MBBS/BDS seats for the students studying in government schools.

However, it will be mandatory for government school students to qualify NEET 2020 exam to avail the 7.5% quota in medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, it was speculated to be a 10% quota for the TN government school students. But the Cabinet Chaired the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. E. Palaniswami had decided on a 7.5% quota.

The decision taken by the Cabinet regarding the same was made on the recommendations made by the panel. The panel was headed by HC Judge Mr.P. Kalaiyarasan. The cognitive gap was witnessed among the students studying in the TN Government. This is one of the main reasons to introduce a 7.5% quota in medical colleges so that the government school students in the state get equal opportunities.

Earlier this month, TN School Education Minister informed that the state will provide free NEET UG coaching for the students who will be appearing for the examination. Earlier, the state stopped offering free coaching to NEET aspirants as it was clashing with public examinations. But now the exam got postponed from 3rd May to 26th May due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the government has decided to offer free coaching to the students to help them prepare for the same.
