After CBSE and CISCE, State Boards of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Goa Ready to Reduce Syllabus

Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana boards are considering reducing the syllabus of Class 10th and Class 12th in light of the adverse situation due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The boards are likely to announce their final decision and the revised syllabus very soon.

The State Boards of Rajasthan, Haryana and Goa are likely to reduce the syllabus for the current academic year. The decision is being taken to reduce the burden on students who have already faced a loss of academic time due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The boards are yet to announce their final decisions on the reduced syllabus for 2020-21 academic year. However, the authorities have confirmed that they are considering it while talking to various media agencies.

CBSE and CISCE Have Already Reduced their Syllabus

The national-level boards -- Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have already announced a reduced syllabus for the current academic year. While CBSE has reduced Class 9 - 12 syllabus by 30%, CISCE has scrapped 25% of the current syllabus for the exams. It must be noted that this is a temporary measure and is being taken only for the current academic year i.e 2020 - 21.

Rajasthan Board to Reduce Syllabus

Mr Govind Singh Dostara, the State Education Minister of Rajasthan, took to Twitter on 9 July 2020 to make this announcement. He informed that the Directorate of Secondary Education, Bikaner has directed the Rajasthan Board and the Rajasthan State Council of Education Research and Training (RSCERT) to take a decision on reducing the syllabus for Secondary Education.

He added that the decision has been taken due to the reduction in workdays in schools due to coronavirus. The two agencies are expected to take a final decision on the same very soon.

Gujarat Board May Reduce 2021 Syllabus by 30%

As per the information given out by Mr Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, the Education Minister of Gujarat, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has been instructed to work on a reduced syllabus for classes 9th to 12th. The board will be seeking suggestions from experts on the topics to be cut off from the syllabus for the current academic year.

It is clear from the statement of Mr Chudasama that the board will be reducing the syllabus. However, students will have to wait for further information from the board to find out the detailed revised syllabus of GSEB 2021.

Goa Board to Reduce Class 10 and Class 12 Syllabus

School students of Goa who are facing an academic loss due to the coronavirus outbreak are also likely to get a respite soon. Mr Ramakrishna Samant, the Chairman of the Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), is also considering reducing the syllabus of 10th and 12th class to make up for the lack of classroom teaching and academic loss in the current academic year.

The Chairman informed the reporters that the board is taking the opinion of all of the stakeholders and has confirmed that the board will announce its decision in the next few days.
