Rameshwari Photocopy Shop in Delhi University Wins Petition Against Publishers as They Refrain from Appealing to Supreme Court
One of the officials of a renowned publisher has revealed that they are going to proceed further with regard to the case and decided to file an application in Delhi High Court on March 10, 2017, to withdraw as plaintiffs.
Renowned publishers Taylor & Francis, Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press have decided to withdraw the case against Delhi University-based photocopy shop, i.e., Rameshwari Photocopy shop on March 9, 2017. The publishers have clarified that they will not appeal further in the apex court, i.e., Supreme Court of India. The publishers took this decision following the appeal decision of Delhi High Court Division Bench on December 9, 2016.
One of the officials of a renowned publisher revealed that they are going to proceed further with regard to the case and decided to file an application in Delhi High Court on March 10, 2017, to withdraw as plaintiffs. He further added that they continued to stand by their principles throughout the case. All the three publishers support the enabling of equitable access to knowledge for students.

He further explained that they endorse and understand the significant role played by course packs in education. The publishers will support the authors who play a significant role in producing material of the highest standards. In the same way, they maintain the copyright laws for balancing the interests of those who curating, creating and disseminating learning materials with those who require access to them.
The publishers had filed the case against Rameshwari Photocopy Shop in 2016 claiming that the shop was selling compilations of the parts of the book in form of course packs, which is illegal as per the provisions of Copyright Act 1957. After the case was filed against Rameshwari Photocopy Service, all the other photocopy shops near Delhi University stopped selling course packs.
