Ratan Tata Takes Charge of Mumbai University’s Advisory Council

Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Maharashtra’s Governor has nominated Ratan Tata as the Chairman of Mumbai University’s First Advisory Council. The Council will perform various important functions such as assisting the Vice-Chancellor of the University in governance, administration and academic research 7 development. The functioning of the Mumbai University will also be overseen by the Council. The advisory council will comprise of people like Anil Kakodkar, a prominent Nuclear Scientist.

The setting up of an advisory council in Mumbai University is the first instance where a University has set up a council according to the Provisions of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act of 2016.

According to a University statement, the decision to appoint Ratan Tata as the Chairman of the Advisory Council of Mumbai University because of his instrumental role which he played in taking the TATA Group to newer heights, both globally and in India, as its head.

The role of the advisory will be to keep track of various policies and reforms. The council will also assist the University in its strategic perspective planning along with reporting to the Chancellor regarding the progress, development and working of the University. It has been decided that twice every year, the council will assemble to perform its task.

Other than the head of the TATA Group Ratan Tata and Nuclear Scientist Anil Kakodkar, the advisory council will comprise of Sujata Saunik (IAS Officer and additional chief secretary to the State Government), Suhas Pednekar (Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor), Ravindra Kulkarni (Mumbai University Pro-Vice-Chancellor). The names for the social leader and educationist positions in the council will be nominated soon.
