At this time, the government is planning to boost the management education while establishing six new IIMs namely IIM Amritsar, IIM Nagpur, IIM Sirmaur, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Visakhapatnam. However, the new IIMs did not manage to attract a decent number of MBA aspirants. For the academic year of 2015, the number was not very high. Despite the efforts of IIMs, the number has still not reached its maximum capacity even this year also.
The total number of seats filled collectively by all the new IIMs in 2015 were 254. Lots of IIM students who secured a percentile equal to the bar set by new IIMs preferred other famous colleges over the new IIMs. As a result, there were a lot of vacant seats at the new IIMs. However, in this year of 2016, more students opted for new IIMs. As a result, the seats filled collectively by all the new IIMs was only 354.

In 2015 the number was 30 whereas in 2016 the number has risen to 54 students. But the institute could not manage to reach its maximum seat capacity which is 60 in number.
While IIM Sirmaur got only 22 students in 2015, this year they received applications from 42 students in the institute. The total number of seats of this institute is 80. Similarly, IIM Sambalpur managed to attract only 45 students in 2016.
