Release Overdue Grant of Rs. 11 Crore for Fellowships: JNU to UGC

In a written letter to the University Grants Commission, the administration of Jawaharlal Nehru University demanded the commission to release the grant of Rs. 11 crore that has been overdue for the long period. The varsity will use this grant to disburse non-NET fellowships.
Most of the students Jawaharlal Nehru University have not received non-NET fellowships for the past few months, as UGC did not release the grant of Rs. 11 crore that was due. The Vice-Chancellor of the varsity carried out discussions with higher authorities of University Grants Commission. However, no response from the commission has been received yet. Therefore, the varsity has written a letter to UGC demanding the release of the overdue amount.

The letter further indicated that the UGC must release the grant as early as possible, a major chunk of students have been affected adversely due to the delay apart from the disturbed functioning of the varsity. The students are unable to meet their expenditures and are eagerly waiting for the grant to be released.

The varsity has taken a positive step by allowing non-NET candidates to avail mess facilities even though they did not pay the fees, after understanding the current situation. Students felt a sigh of relief with the decision of the varsity.
According to sources, the University Grants Commission will take up the issue as the top priority and release the grant without causing further delay.
