Reservation in IIT-Dharwad will Benefit Youth from State, Says Education Minister

Minister of Higher Education, Mr. Basavaraj Rayaraddi expressed his concern that Ministry of Human Resource and Development did not agree with the request about providing 25 percent regional reservation at Indian Institute of Technology, Dharwad. He indicated that the government had requested the HRD Ministry to provide 25 percent regional reservation after allocating 470 acres of state government's land for the construction of the institute.

He questioned the HRD Ministry that what would be the use of setting IIT in the state if the ministry does not grant regional reservation. He exhorted that the state government is providing land and required infrastructure and the ministry have to consider the regional reservation. Students from the state will be benefitted if the ministry gives the nod for local reservation.

He further pointed out that Hyderabad and Karnataka had been granted special status as per amendment of Article 371 which in turn brought benefits to the youth in education and employment. The union ministers and MPs who are representing the state need to take up the issue with the central government. He also demanded the central government to grant regional reservation at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Raichur.

He also clarified that the state government would take necessary steps for initiating probe and action against the fake certificates scam. For this purpose, the state government will write to Union government for introducing 'chip' system to detect original and fake certificates.
