Retired Professors of JNU Slam Administration of University
The Academic Council or AC meet was held on December 26, 2016. A group of students along with some of the professors staged a protest stating that the agenda items were passed without carrying out discussions.
A total number of 15 professors who also include famous historian Romila Thapar of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) slammed the administration of varsity regarding its action against the faculty and students who are connected with protest during the Academic Council (AC) meet. They termed the act as a supreme contempt for the freedom and dignity of faculty and students.

The Academic Council or AC meet was held on December 26, 2016. A group of students along with some of the professors staged a protest stating that the agenda items were passed without carrying out discussions. Later, the varsity had suspended ten students and two among them were de-registered. The varsity also issued a letter to Nivedita Menon, a professor indicating that disciplinary will be against her if she supports the students at the Administrative Block.
All the professors wrote a letter to varsity expressing their shock and dismay regarding the incident. They stated that the varsity must not take decisions on the important aspects of agenda without holding discussions. On the other hand, the varsity is not allowed to hold the meeting in the midst of the winter vacation and the way the Academic Council (AC) took place was unjudicial.

During the Academic Council (AC) meet, the varsity had adopted norms of University Grants Commission or UGC which deal with the admission procedures for Ph.D. & M.Phil courses as well as other postgraduate programmes. The meeting took place in the middle of the winter vacation and received a severe objection from the faculty members.
