RGUHS Seeks MCI Approval to Start MD-Ph.D Course
RGUHS is waiting for its approval from MCI to start MD PhD course in the university. According to the university officials, MD PhD course will benefit the medicos-research enthusiasts and break the conventional mode of medical education.
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has written to Medical Council of India to grant them permission to start MD-Ph.D from the upcoming academic session. RGUHS is trying to break the conventional mode of medical education and is planning to start new courses.
One of the RGUHS officials informed that the Doctorate of Medicine and Philoshpy - MD-Ph.D degree is as good as the dual doctoral degrees. According to him the start of the MD-Ph.D degree at RGUHS will benefit the medicos- research enthusiasts. This degree will combine the vocational training of Doctor of Medicine along with the research work and expertise of Ph.D.
Dr. S Sachianand, Vice-Chancellor RGUHS informed that they have written a letter to MCI a few months back and are waiting for the approval so that they could start the course from the upcoming academic year.

He further informed that it is a simultaneous course and students can pursue the same along with their MD degree. The students can continue to do their research and projects along with the coursework. This will break the conventional mode of medical education and will allow students to pursue research and take up various projects.

The introduction of MD PhD programme will not only benefit the young doctors but will also benefit the research enthusiasts. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is one of the premier health sciences university of the country. The varsity was established in the year 1996 by the government.
