GATE 2016 results declared on 18th march.

This year Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) was conducted between January 30, 2016, and February 7. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore announced the results of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2016 on Friday 18 March which was supposed to be announced on March 19. Students can now check their results and download their GATE 2016 scorecard.

In this year’s GATE examination Rohit Agrawal from NIT Raipur secured 9th position and Aarti Gupta from BIT college came 13th in all India ranking. Around 5,000 students appeared for GATE this year from Raipur city, out of which 24 students secured a position in top 1000.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Governmentof India.

The score is used for admission to various post-graduate education programs like Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India.

Admission to postgraduate courses (master’s and doctoral) in the country, with MHRD and other government scholarships/assistantships in engineering, technology, architecture and science is open to those who qualify GATE.

The score is valid for three years. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for taking the test.

The online paper contains some questions for which numerical answers need to be answered by the candidate using a virtual keypad. The remaining questions are the multiple-choice type of questions.

A candidate is expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree. However, the candidate can choose any paper according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which he/she wishes to seek admission.

According to the experts candidates who secure a position among top 200 in All India ranking can easily get the admission in the best IITs of India like IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Mumbai. Also, they get eligible for the getting a job in BHEL, NTPC and other PSUs.

When asked to the star topper of Raipur city Rohit, for his mantra to clear such a grueling exam said "Regular Practice and Solving old question papers helped me crack the exam". He thanked his teachers who guided him. After college, he used to give at least 4 hours for his preparation. Now Rohit wants to pursue M.Tech.
