Central Government gave its nod for the new central Agricultural University at Samastipur in Bihar with an allocation of Rs 295 Crores. The new Agricultural University will be known as Rajendra Central Agricultural University which will be the upgradation of the present Rajendra Agricultural University. The Union Cabinet approved the decision on Tuesday, before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state to launch four new schemes at the 87th foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research to be held at Patna on July 25. Sources reveals that after the approval the present Rajendra Agricultural University will be upgraded to an international level with excellent infrastructure, adequate teaching manpower and necessary civil infrastructure and copious operational provisions to perform on-farm research and frontline extension and other provisions. The new university will have 6 colleges, 7 research institutes and eleven Krishi Vigyan Kendras with state-of –the –art Laboratories etc. The proposed new agriculture university is supposed to give a boost to the agriculture production in the eastern region, thereby improving the economic condition of the farmers of the region. It is also came to known that cabinet has also given its approval for setting up a college of veterinary science and horticulture and forestry and given its 'in-principle' approval for reviving the Banana Research Centre at Goraul in Vaishali.
