Saarang, the Annual Fest of IIT Madras Begins on January 4, 2017
Saarang, the IIT Madras fest will conclude on January 8, 2017. The students will also plant 100 saplings on the campus to cover up the loss of green cover that took place due to cyclone Vardah in December 2016.
The annual fest of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras called Saarang is going to commence on January 4, 2017, and all the arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of annual fest. Renowned artists, as well as international performers, will give their performances and enthral the audience as a part of the annual fest.
Saarang is an annual cultural fest which includes various competitions, performances and wacky sports. This year, the cultural fest includes eating contests and chef wars, classical and rock performances and wacky sports like Muggle Quidditch. Interestingly, the annual cultural fest of IIT-M will go cashless this year.

Starting from food stalls to ticket sales, then visitors have to take out their debit or credit card to make payments. They can also make payments through online wallets giving an emphasis to digital transactions. M. Sivakumar, Dean of Students, revealed that IIT-M would play a significant role in promoting digital awareness during the annual cultural fest. Bank representatives will also train the students on how to adopt cashless transactions.
Saarang is regarded as a largest student-run fest in the country. The fest will conclude on January 8, 2017. The students will also plant 100 saplings on the campus to cover up the loss of green cover that took place due to the cyclone in December 2016.

In 2017, Saarang will have 90 competitive events, six professional shows, 200 informal shows, seven world culture show acts, 14 lecture demonstrations and some classical performances. Various artists and musicians from Tamil film industry will also grace the annual fest.
