Sethuram, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA University, has written a letter to Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource and Development suggesting him to provide a scholarship of Rs. 3,000 per month to students who clear the national-level B.Ed examination. He urged the ministry to lay down rules stating that these students shall work as teachers for at least five years after the completion of course.

He further wrote to the ministry urging them to provide scholarships to top 50 students irrespective of the college they join, as well as to 50 among the top 500 students who are willing to join SASTRA University.

He requested Prakash Javadekar to think of introducing scholarships either for all students who qualify the national-level exam or top 1000 students. The scholarships shall be offered to the students who seek admission to B.A., B.Ed or B.Sc., B.Ed programmes which are approved by NCTE.

Earlier, HRD Ministry proposed national-level B.Ed examination for the aspirants who wish to become a teacher. The students need to qualify the exit exam to get a B.Ed tag. However, the proposal related to exit exam might not go well with the colleges and students. The government proposed exit exam for MBBS as well as engineering courses which received negative feedback from most of the institutions and students.
