Savitribai Phule Pune University Launches New Policy for Earn While Learn Campaign
Now, the varsity will pay 90% of the total stipend.
According to the new policy launched by the Savitribai Phule Pune University, the University will only pay 90 percent of the salary under the earn while learn scheme for students who belong to the economically backward category and 10 percent will be pay by the college. Earlier the University used to pay 100 percent of the stipend for the reserved category students and women and 75 percent for the rest of the students, this policy was being exploited. The college used to give maximum jobs to the reserved category students and girls so they do not have to pay the salary.

This policy is launched with an aim to give all the students a fair chance to get the job. The University has decided to pay 90 percent of the stipend irrespective of the caste, creed and gender just as long as the student belongs to the economically backward category and the rest will be paid by the college. A student is given Rs. 30 per hour and he or she are only allowed to work for 3 hours in a day so the student does not compromise studies.

450 colleges come under the Savitribai Phule Pune University i.e. are affiliated to it and are assigned a fund of Rs. 5,50,00,000. The percentage of the fund that comes under a particular college depends on the percentage of students that enrol. For example, if a college has 500 students then they are entitled to Rs. 50,000 and if a college has 1,000 students then they are entitled to Rs. 1,00,000 and so on.
