Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Gets New Vice-Chancellor
- Prof. Nitin Karmalkar has become the new Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
- Prof. Nitin Karmalkar was an alumnus of SPPU. He completed his M.Sc and Ph.D. in Geology from the varsity. He holds two post-doctoral research degrees in the field of Geology.
Prof. Nitin Karmalkar has become the new Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University. The government of India officially confirmed his appointment. Currently, Mr. Nitin Karmalkar has been serving as the HOD of Environmental Sciences as well as Geology professor at the varsity. The term of the former Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Wasudev Gade ended on May 15, 2017.
Prof. Nitin Karmalkar was an alumnus of SPPU. He completed his M.Sc and Ph.D. in Geology from the varsity. He holds two post-doctoral research degrees in the field of Geology. He has a close association with the varsity.

Prof. Nitin Karmalkar revealed that rankings play a crucial role for any university. However, he will try to focus on ensuring employability of the students. He indicated that he would give more emphasis to the development of skills among the students, and increase their chances of being employed.
The VC also expressed that the students are the real brand ambassadors for any institute. Therefore, it is important to give more priority to students.

So far, Prof. Karmalkar has completed six major research projects. He also played a crucial role in mobilising funds for the department. The new VC also published three technical reports, three abstract volumes, one book, and 34 research papers. He also reviews national and international journals in Geology.
The appointment of Prof. Karmalkar as the VC of SPPU will be an asset to the varsity since he had a vast experience and expertise in Geology. His appointment will give a new impetus to the varsity in the field of Environmental Sciences.
