Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Approves Reforms in Evaluation Process
- The Senate Meeting of SPPU witnessed heated discussions on many issues.
- VC of SPPU approved M.Voc course in all colleges that offer B.Voc course.
On March 17, 2018, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) took significant decisions in its annual Senate Meeting. According to sources, reforms in education and evaluation process, industry participation and collaborations and approval of new degrees were some of the major agendas of the meeting. A majority of the members of Senate submitted and expressed their recommendations pertaining to the examination and evaluation department.

Vice Chancellor of SPPU, Dr. Nitin Kamalakar expressed that there was more scope for improvement in accordance to which relevant reforms must be undertaken. He gave a nod to the proposals that were tabled before him for approval. A prime issue that was highlighted during the Senate meeting was the delay in the declaration of results due to the teachers’ reluctance in participating in the centralized evaluation process.

Major Highlights of SPPU Senate Meeting & Proposals Approved: -
- Formulation of unique and common policy guidelines with respect to conducting examinations and evaluating first-year papers in colleges.
- Installing the statue of Savitribai Phule on the campus
- Colleges offering B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) course must start offering M.Voc (Master of Vocation) course.
- Representation of one member from SC/ ST/ OBC/ NT categories to Management Council. Many arguments took place on this issue, however, later the proposal was finally approved.
- Discussions took place on many other issues which are still pending for approval.
It was the first Senate meeting conducted by SPPU after the new Maharashtra Public Universities Act came into effect. The meeting started at 11:00 AM and continued for about 12 hours.
