Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) to Set Up 58 New Colleges
Savitribai Phule Pune University has decided to set up 58 colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nasik District of Maharashtra in the next five years. The move will help improve SPPU's NIRF ranking and also generate more employment opportunities and give a boost to the economy.
Popularly known as the Oxford of the East, Pune city is famous for its prestigious universities that offer one of the best education standards in India. The universities are famous for engineering, along with this the universities also offer a great standard for arts, commerce & management courses.
In order to add an excessive amount of learning institutions, Savitribai Phule is planning to build 58 more colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts of Maharashtra in the next five years.
Savitribai Phule Pune University has recently submitted its proposal for building 58 colleges to the Maharashtra Uchha Shikshan Parishad (the state level governing body for higher education). They plan to develop these colleges with an objective to better its ranking in NIRF. At present, SPPU ranks at number 9 and it aims to reach the 5th position in the next five year.

The management and the academic council of the university have prepared a collective draft for the five-year plan after discussions with faculty, students, department, institution heads & industry experts, said Mr. Nitin Karmalkar, the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The new colleges which will be set up will pave way for the introduction of more courses that are designed to improve employment and to promote research opportunities.

Pune has recently topped the list of ‘the most livable cities of India’. With this plan of increasing the number of colleges, as the number of institutes will increase, simultaneously, it will also generate employment & uplift the economy in the coming years. Pune will also be able to get more points on the Liveability Index.
