Scholarship worth Rs. 75 crore provided to more than 3,500 students belonging to Jammu and Kashmir attracted a lot of students.
Scholarship worth Rs. 75 crore provided to more than 3,500 students belonging to Jammu and Kashmir attracted a lot of students. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the students have been attracted towards the scholarship money granted for the session 2016-2017.
He also said that the transparency that was introduced in the scheme and the 10 awareness workshops conducted to spread information about the special scholarship scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students has appealed a lot of students from the state. Over 5,000 students from the state had applied for this scholarship, added the minister.

The scholarship is being provided to students who want to pursue higher education and has seen a very positive response from the students. The workshops held in Srinagar, Anantnag, Kupwara, Pulwama, Jammu, Rajouri, Doda, Kargil Kathua and Leh in the month of May 2016 have proven to be very productive.
Jammu and Kashmir students quota that was earlier restricted to 250, has now provided admissions to 1,430 students in various reputed engineering colleges. This could be possible because of the enhancement of the supernumerary quota from 2 to 10 seats in several engineering branches.

Scholarship has also been provided for hotel management and nursing courses under this special scheme. 15 students got admitted to premier hotel management institutes whereas 284 students got admission to some of the popular nursing colleges.
A number of students who got admission in medical colleges are 177 i.e. based entirely on merit. Amongst the general category, 1,014 students got admission.
A total of 3,584 students from Jammu and Kashmir were awarded scholarships in 2016. Out of these 2,255 students were from Jammu, 1,329 students from Kashmir Valley and26 from Ladakh.
