The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will be visiting the Government College of Engineering Nagpur (GCOE) for inspection for the second time. The institution will commence operations from the forthcoming academic year 2016-17.

A team from AICTE already visited the institute on March 27.

The second team will verify whether it has removed deficiencies as pointed out by an earlier team that had come on March 27. Only after the second team's green signal would GCOE would be granted 'Letter of Approval (LOA)', which is a must for starting the college. Though the earlier team had expressed satisfaction over arrangements like building, hostels, and classrooms, it had pointed out some deficiencies.

Earlier, the AICTE headquarters in Delhi cleared reports about facilities of GCOE, after it closed its inspection.

The three-member team from apex engineering body's western office in Mumbai arrived in the city and visited the office of Joint Director for Technical Education Gulab Thakre.

The Joint Director accompanied the visitors to the actual site at Khapri near newly constructed homes for Mihan project-affected persons (PAPs) on Wardha Road. They inspected the area, spread over 11.67 acres, and also the existing building, classrooms and laboratories, actually meant for housing government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC).

Chief Minister Shri. Devendra Fadnavis has handed over a letter of land allotment for GCOE and also for the existing building to the Principal Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, Mr. Sanjay Chahande and to the Technical Education Director, Mr. Subhash Mahajan in Mumbai.

The much-awaited institution will start with five branches and 300 seats from the newly allotted campus. The institute will have 60 seats in each branch.

The Joint Director's office had already dispatched proposal for affiliation to NU while the admissions would be made through centralized admissions process (CAP) applicable for all engineering colleges in Maharashtra. The demand for the college was made four years ago while two years later the Congress-NCP government cleared the proposal.

The new Maharashtra Government's engineering institute will be very good for scholars from underprivileged families as they will able to afford engineering education in reputed institute without paying hefty fees.
