The academic council of Magadh University (MU) has decided to set up a separate unit for running the vocational courses being conducted at all the constituent colleges & a few PG departments of the university. The cell is being set up to keep a tab on the functioning of the vocational courses. The decision has been taken at the university's academic council. The meeting for coming up with the decision was held under the chairmanship of Magadh University VC Md. Ishtiyaque at the Bodh Gaya campus on Friday.
The in charge of the meeting Mr. Shailendra Kumar said that the academic council also has also approved a proposal to setup a committee to channelize the UGC’s sponsored add-on courses that are being taught in most of the constituent colleges of MU. He also informed that the committee would take stocks of the functioning of the add-on courses from time to time. He also said that it would suggest various measures to improve the courses in the larger interest.
In the major decision policy, the academic council is also set to approve the proposals to make Hindi and English compulsory at the Degree level, apart from law, from the session 2016-2017.
Also, GS (general studies), that are being taught with 100 marks, would now be taught of 50 marks only, & the other 50 marks would be kept for the environment science, he also said, that the council has also agreed upon opening a new branch office of MU at Biharsharif to meet the student’s needs. Today, the university has a branch office at Patna.
According to reports, the council also has decided not to engage the retired teachers in Ph.D. works as supervisors. Even the teachers appointed on the ad-hoc basis or temporary basis will not be allowed to become supervisors of the Ph. D research works so that the sanctity of the research and quality could be also be maintained.
