Shivaji University's Two Scientists Selected for Nobel Laureate Meet

The Shivaji University Two researchers Jasmin Sheikh and Sanjay Latthe are among the 21 young Indian scientists selected for the 66th Nobel Laureate Meeting which will be held in Lindau, Germany. Sheikh is a researcher at the university's physics department while Latthe recently moved to Savitribai Phule Pune University for further studies in optically-transparent and durable nanoparticles, a niche section of physics.

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting is considered one of the best opportunities for young scientists to have a one-on-one dialogue with eminent scientists and researchers.

Shivaji University vice-chancellor Devanand Shinde has expressed his happiness and satisfaction over the selection of Sheikh and Latthe. He said that this will inspire thousands of students and staff to pursue their research with passion. A scientific review panel appointed by the organisers evaluates the participation application for selection. As many as 400 young scientists from across the globe will be participating in the annual Lindau Meeting to be held from June 26 to July 1.

According to the website of the organisers, 30 to 40 Nobel laureates convene at Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists, undergraduates, PhD students, and post-doctoral researchers from all over the world. The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings foster exchange among scientists of different generations, cultures, and disciplines.

The meetings focus on physiology, medicine, and chemistry, the three natural science Nobel Prize disciplines. The scientific programme of each Lindau meeting is based on the principle of dialogue.
