State Institute of Education Research and Training Rajasthan has removed the name India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru from two chapters in the revised social science textbook from class 8th.
Management took this decision on the basis of voting. Jawaharlal Nehru's name had not been removed but was "still there on page 9,1 mentioning one-line of Nehru presenting the objectives resolution in the chapter 'Our Constitution' and while on page 177, the only reference is of him having "inaugurated" one of the steps on the course to "Rajasthan's unification".
The information has been uploaded on the website of the Rajasthan State Textbook Board. This organization is responsible for publishing books for the state education board. The physical textbook however is not yet in the market. But this exclusion of Chacha Nehru has not gone down well with State Congress party. Sachin Pilot stating that the party would launch an agitation against this at a national level.
The textbook of social science of class 8th will be introduced in schools affiliated to the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) from this academic session. The book has references well renowned personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Veer Sawarkar, Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Subhas Chandra Bose and leader of the freedom movement Hemu Kalani.
