Sikkim and Microsoft Signs Pact for Enhancing Digital Literacy

The Sikkim government and Microsoft India have signed a pact to enhance digital literacy. The collaboration took place on 31st Jan 2019 to revamp the state’s education system. Microsoft will use new age technology to enhance digital literacy among students and faculty in government-run schools of the state. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the HRD Department of the state and Microsoft in Sikkim. Many eminent personalities such as R.B. Subba HRD Minister, Vinnie Jauhari, Director of Education, Microsoft were present during the event.

As a part of the pact, Microsoft will support Sikkim in the integration of IT content in the state board curriculum, to enhance digital literacy and to build teacher capacity in government-run schools.

Subba informed that the state government has collaborated with Microsoft India to provide the latest technology in core sectors of the state and to bring radical changes in its e-governance and core sectors in Sikkim. According to him, the collaboration will improve the quality of education in the state and make the youth future ready.

The state government will team up with Microsoft’s IT courseware and will develop the state board curriculum (class 6th to class 10th). It will also train more than 100 trainers at the SCERT labs. On the basis of the agreement, two schools will be identified for the implementation of the respective plan.
