Sikkim TET, NEHU Exams Postponed

The Sikkim State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) which was scheduled to be conducted on December 14 has been postponed. This came after the people of the Northeast took to the streets to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

The Sikkim Government has not yet released the new date for the exam. The order said that the government has come to a decision that the STET 2019 test which was to be held on December 14th has been postponed until further notice.

The STET is organised for the appointment for classes 1 to 5 teachers as well as for Elementary Graduate teachers for classes 6 to 8. The admit card for the same can be downloaded on the official website of the Sikkim Human Resource Development Department (SHRDD) at sikkimhrdd.org.

The duration of the exam is 2 and a half hours which has 150 objective type questions. The sections for the exam include Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics, Language I, Language II, Environmental Studies and Paper II included Language I, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Language II, and Child Development and Pedagogy.

Along with Sikkim TET, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya has also postponed December 13 and 14 exams. To this, the official website put out a notice saying all the undergraduate and postgraduate examinations which were scheduled on December 13, 14 have been postponed until further notice.

Prior to this, Dibrugarh and Gauhati universities had deferred examinations. Exams in Guwahati, Agartala, Shillong, and Dujialan were also postponed by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. All of this was an outcome of the ongoing protests against the new Citizenship Amendment Bill which became law on November 12.
