South Asian University (SAU) Might Miss 2018 Construction Deadline
SAARC sponsored – South Asian University (SAU) is likely to miss the deadline of its permanent campus construction. As per progress, the SAU campus will now be ready by 2020.
SAARC sponsored – South Asian University (SAU) is likely to miss the deadline of permanent campus construction. The university backed by the SAARC countries was supposed to get its permanent campus by 2018. However, delay in getting approvals from certain authorities is delaying the process.

The university construction is taking place at Maidan Garhi near IGNOU and is expected to get over by 2020. Meanwhile, SAU is functioning through a temporary campus near Akbar Bhawan. The rent for this campus is Rs.1.5 crore per month.
The university was granted 100 acres of land by the Indian Government whereas the construction cost will be managed by collaboratively by the SAARC nations. Kavita Sharma, President of SAU, informed that five buildings of SAU are already under construction. Construction for seven more buildings will start at the end of 2017 as the tenders for the same have been passed.
Explaining the reason behind the delay in construction, Sharma said that approval of the Master Layout plan from South MCD and other paperwork with DDA took time. She is hopeful that the university will start functioning from the new campus within three years.

Started in 2010, SAU offers various programmes including MPhil and Ph.D. level courses in the domain of Law, Computer Science, Sociology, Development Economics, Biotechnology, International Relations and Applied Mathematics. The degrees awarded by SAU are recognized by all SAARC member as per the inter-government agreement that was signed by the foreign ministers of SAARC nations.
