Female candidates who have managed to clear the JEE Advanced 2017 examination can log in to a web portal that has been specially launched in order to assist women in the IIT admission process. The primary objective behind launching the same is to improve the gender ratio at IITs i.e. Indian Institutes of Technology.

It was estimated that until the end of 2020, the percentage of women taking up B.Tech courses at IITs will be increased to 20% from the current 8%. The assistance portal that has been launched is an outcome of the same target proposal.

As per JoSAA, which is the JEE Council responsible for counselling and admissions at IITs revealed that out of the total women candidates who qualify for admissions at IITs, only 38% accept the seat. It is reported than females opt for limited choices during the counselling process. Moreover, parents are worried about their daughter's safety as a result of which they refrain from IIT admissions.

In order to cater to this, the help desk in the form of a web portal has been set up by IIT Mandi. It is operated by more than 100 women faculty members, alumni as well as students. These volunteers will play a significant role in assisting female candidates and guide them through the entire process of selection of the right course and institute for them.

In response to this initiative, Timothy A Gonsalves who is the Director at IIT Mandi wrote a letter to the women candidates who have cleared the JEE Advanced exam this year. In the letter, he congratulated them and at the same time informed about the new portal that has been launched.

Additionally, IIT Delhi will also conduct an Open House for women candidates soon.
