SPPU and College of Engineering Pune Aiming for Institute of Eminence (IoE) Tag
- SPPU and College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) applied for Institute of Eminence (IoE) status.
- The institutes are hoping to be selected for the IoE tag due to its outstanding performance over the years.
College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) and Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) are aiming for Institute of Eminence (IoE) tag. These institutes were eligible to register for IoE status and submitted the application form for the same. In the Union Budget 2018, the central government allocated Rs. 10,000 crore for setting up 20 world-class institutes. If selected, SPPU and CoEP will get Rs. 1,000 each along with greater autonomy.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development will set 10 public and 10 private institutes for IoE status. The results are expected to be announced in the last week of March 2018.

Officiating Registrar of SPPU, Arvind Shaligram revealed that the varsity is hoping to get IoE status. The selection process involved in selecting the applicants for IoE status is rigid. A high-level committee constituted by HRD Ministry will scrutinise every application followed by a rigorous selection process. While submitting the application, the varsity has given a clear shot of its vision and applied in a proper way, he added.

Director of CoEP, Mr. BB Ahuja revealed that NIRF ranking of the institute is expected to play a role in the selection process. CoEP has been featured in the list of top 25 institutes. Even though the institute secured 24th rank, CoEP has been given the first position. All the 23 institutes ahead of CoEP are degree-awarding institutes. The selection committee is expected to take these aspects into consideration too. CoEP’s performance over the past few years is outstanding. The research work of the institute is also noteworthy, he highlighted.
So far, more than 100 institutes applied for IoE status.
