SPPU first-year students of the three-year course of Bachelor’s of Law (LLB) have requested across colleges that their first term exams be postponed. The students have urged that their test be pushed ahead by at least a fortnight as they were not able to prepare for it due to lack of time. According to the students, the syllabus was rushed ahead between the assignments and they were left with no time at all to prepare for the exams that are scheduled to commence from January 30 2020.

In a letter to SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University), they mentioned that the syllabus was winded up hastily due to late admissions. It was completed in a rush merely three days ago in various colleges.

The first-year student from ILS college, Karan Naiknaware, claimed that the admission rounds were going on till December 2019 in most of the colleges and he was admitted just before that month. The student further added that studying for exams in such less time is an impossible task and having backlogs is not an option as they have to take the Judicial Magistrate First Class exams which require a constant good score. Karan claims that the students completed the syllabus, attended the lectures and submitted the assignments within a month and a half.

Another student named Rishikesh Gulve from Shankarrao Chavan Law College received his admission letter by the end of November. Facing a similar dilemma, Shankar says that he was a Marathi medium backdrop who now has to appear for exams in English. Complaining further, he says that the few units of the syllabus are still remaining to be taught and the rest of the syllabus was wrapped up in a haste.

Students have also informed that most of the colleges won’t have breaks between two semesters and the second term will commence immediately after the first term ends.

The controller examination officer, Arvind Shaligram was aware of the issue and claims that the exams were already being conducted little later than normal. He also says that the student’s concerns will be taken under notice and the request for more time will be reviewed before taking any decision.

SPPU requires to analyse the entire scenario and needs to take a collective decision sooner for the welfare of its students.
