SPPU M.Tech Aviation Course Fails to Attract Students, 8 Admissions in Last Five Years
The M.Tech Aviation course, which was launched by SPPU in 2013 failed to attract students. In the last first years, only 8 eight students took admission.
SPPU launched M.Tech Aviation course in 2013 and expected a great response from the students. However, the course received a positive response only in 2013. The total intake of the course is six, and all the seats were filled in 2013. In the preceding years, i.e., from 2014 to 2018, the M.Tech Aviation course of SPPU failed to attract the students. No student joined M.Tech Aviation course at SPPU in 2014-15, 2016-17. In 2015-16 and 2017-18, only one student took admission, which means only eight students joined this course in the last five years. The admission process for SPPU M.Tech Aviation course for the academic session 2018-19 is still underway.
The university has collected Rs. 26 lakh per annum towards fees from students while expenditure so far has been Rs 21.57 lakh. The authorities of SPPU are worried about the poor demand for the course and planning to bring some major changes.
In 2017, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) planned to bring some changes in M.Tech Aviation course. The varsity had plans to restructure the course to M.Tech Aviation Management. Prof. Wasudeo Gade, Vice-Chancellor of SPPU revealed that M.Tech Aviation course prepares students to become pilots. However, the restructured course will prepare the students to become managers in Ground Clearance Control and Air Traffic Control.

SPPU is also planning to launch B.Tech Aviation course that will be of a duration of three years. Interested students who have passed HSC examinations can apply for the B.Tech Aviation course. The proposal for restructuring M.Tech Aviation course and launching B.Tech Aviation course will be placed before the academic council meeting soon.

Prof. Wasudeo Gade further explained that the varsity held discussions with industry experts to restructure M.Tech Aviation course. The varsity has taken the decision to put the proposal before the academic council only after holding consultations. He further revealed that they received suggestions from the officials of Air India as well.
The VC explained that Air India officials suggested that there is a wide range of career opportunities in Aviation Management and restructuring the course will help students bag better employment in the field of aviation. The course will be delivered in collaboration with two flight schools in Miami and Germany.
Explaining about the three-year B.Tech Aviation degree, he indicated that an all India entrance test will be conducted to fill up seats for the undergraduate level course. The varsity will offer 20 seats for the same.
The course fee of M.Tech Aviation Management will be Rs. 65 lakh and the course fee for B.Tech Aviation would be around Rs. 26-30 lakh.
