The security measures came in the wake of alleged leakage of the question paper of the first-year basic electrical engineering exam, just before the examination was to start on Friday, 9 December 2016.
Previously, the question papers were sent to colleges from the University on the morning of the scheduled examination. After receiving the paper, the colleges would take the print out as per requirements and the number of students appearing in the examination.
W N Gade, Vice-Chancellor of the University, while sharing the information, said that as a part of the security measures, whenever a college downloads the question paper, a watermark will be detected with the name of the college. Therefore, if a question paper is leaked prior to the examination, the University will immediately come to know the details of the concerned college from where the leak has taken place. This will help in leading to the culprits.

On Friday, 9 December 2016, several students from two colleges alleged that they had received question papers on their cell phones before the start of the examination. The University came to know about it at 10:10 am only. After receiving the information, the University immediately sent a team to investigate the matter. Since the exam had already started, students were allowed to finish the exam as scheduled so as to avoid further chaos and confusion.
