SRM Andhra Pradesh to be the First Varsity in AP Capital Amaravati

The grand inauguration ceremony of SRM University, Amaravati took place on July 15, 2017. Honourable Union Minister of Urban Development, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu and CM of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the SRM University in the new capital region of Andhra Pradesh, i.e., Amaravati. The varsity is located at Neerukonda, which is just 38 km away from Amaravati.

On this occasion, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu addressed the gathering. Expressing his happiness, he indicated that SRM University – Amaravati is the first university in the capital region of the Andhra Pradesh. He appreciated the authorities for completing the construction of the campus within five months. Speaking about the varsity, the minister indicated that SRM University is one of the top universities in India that not only attracts students from various states but also abroad. The varsity also tied up with various international varsities and organisations to design the curriculum.

While delivering his speech, CM of Andhra Pradesh indicated that the state government is laying more emphasis on quality education and has given permission for the establishment of various universities in the capital region. SRM University- Amaravati will admit around 300 students in the first academic session, regular classes for which will begin on August 7, 2017. He further assured that the state government will develop Amravati into a knowledge hub in the coming years and SRM University will be the first step in the process. Giving details about the faculty members of SRM University – Amravati, CM revealed that almost all the faculty members are Ph.D. holders who hold the potential of imparting quality and world class education to students.

In pursuit of developing this culture of excellence, SRM University AP - Amaravati has forged collaborations with the world's best universities, MIT and UC Berkeley College of Engineering, U.S., launching new program with design, innovation, and entrepreneurship focus for the first time in India.

SRM is working with MIT, U.S. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) for the design and development of their curriculum through the use of MITx courses. These courses will incorporate the concepts of hybrid learning by utilizing both traditional and technologically enabled teaching methods.

B.Tech programs in CSE, ECE, EEE, and Mechanical Engineering are being offered from the academic year 2017-18. To attract meritorious students, 50% tuition waiver is being awarded to students getting an aggregate of 90% and above in PCM subjects in CBSE or an aggregate of 95% and above in PCM subjects in any state board. For the top 25 admitted students who meet this criterion would be given 100% tuition and hostel fee waiver.

The university will also establish centres of Excellence in Renewable energy, Satellite technology, Internet of Things (IoTs), Blue Economy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning, Rolls Royce – SRM Corporate laboratory, Jal – Janak Rail energy, and CRISPR for pushing the frontiers of modern technology. “Semester abroad programs and company internships across the world would also be present to create innovators and global leaders”, said Dr. Narayan Rao, Pro – Vice Chancellor of SRM AP.
