The principals from different Maharashtra colleges express concern as the overall scores in SSC Examination plunges. The lower percentage of SSC results which has gone down to 74.94% to 85.05% this year is likely to affect the Junior College (FYJC) admission session.

The principal of Mithibai Autonomous College, Vile Parle, Mr. Rajpal Hande said that the low pass percentage of SSC 2019 will be a big blow to Junior Colleges. He expressed that the recent decision of omitting oral exam in the current scenario was certainly not the best decision. Evaluation based on only theory is a backdated process.

For many years, national school boards have given tough competition to the FYJC aspirants in admission processes but the state board also had a higher competitive level for the high pass percentage. In this year, the competition is expected to be one sided where the state board admissions will take a negative impact. Top FYJCs offering bifocal courses will also be a distant dream for the State Board students this year as in Mumbai City alone the number of 90% scorer in SSC took a notable dip. The bifocal subjects which were vocational subjects prescribed by Directorate of vocational education and training were very popular among students. The courses can be taken up as optional oned with commerce, arts and science streams.

The vice principal of city college informed that the bifocal course has the highest applications each year because of easier-to-score mechanisms of those subjects, He has expressed his concern that this year, the state board students will not be able to secure a place in the first merit list.

The CBSE Chennai Region results which include Mumbai has seen a 99% passing percentage in the region with a huge number of students scoring 90% or more. Similarly, in ICSE 2019, the state of Maharashtra has reported a success rate of 99.85%. But only 6% to 10% of the non-state board students apply for the FJYC each year. However, a significant number of top scorers try to get into top Junior Colleges like Jai Hind, St. Xavier's, Mithibai College etc.

The principals see a positive side behind the score dip of SSC. They have accused the state board of not understanding the need for the children efficiently. They expect after the dip the state board will take the matter seriously and introduce reformative policies to get to the students in a better way.

The principal of Jai Hind College said that the board should now adopt new assessment systems which the national boards are following currently.
