St. Stephen’s College and LSR May Not Feature in NIRF Rankings 2018
- Faculty data is one of the parameters required by NIRF for assessing the institutes.
- LSR and St. Stephen’s were reluctant to share the faculty details, and these colleges might not figure in rankings this year.
Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College and St. Stephen’s College of the University of Delhi refused to disclose the details pertaining to faculty that are mandatory for the assessment of colleges in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Faculty data is one of the parameters in NIRF for assessing the institutes.
The government will announce NIRF 2018 rankings in April. The government will publish the overall list of top institutes, as well as, a separate list for top colleges. Last year, LSR College participated in the rankings and bagged the sixth rank, while St. Stephen’s did not participate in NIRF 2017.

Last year, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT),All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Sri Venkateswara College,Hindu College and St. Stephen’s College decided to participate in NIRF 2018 and submitted the forms to the effect. According to sources, LSR and St. Stephen’s were reluctant to share the faculty details and these colleges might not figure in rankings this year.
An HRD Ministry official revealed that all the entries would undergo scrutiny and evaluation. Almost, all the applicants have disclosed the data pertaining to faculty, except LSR and St. Stephen’s. Therefore, these colleges will be ineligible to take part in ranking framework if they do not share the faculty details within a stipulated data. An official communication has been sent to these colleges and there was no reply so far.
This year, 4,734 institutes are participating in the rankings, 1,525 more than the previous year. The rankings will be given in eight categories: -
- General Colleges
- Pharmacy
- Medical
- Law
- Architecture
- Management
- Engineering
- Overall

The rankings are prepared by taking a wide range of parameters into consideration. These parameters include: -
- Outcomes that judge the employability of graduates
- Quality of research
- Teaching and learning resources
Responding to the issue, former VC of Delhi University, Mr. Dinesh Singh revealed that the details pertaining to faculty is available on the public domain under Right to Information Act. Therefore, it is not necessary for the institutes or colleges to disclose the details, he opined.
