Start-Ups Still Major Recruiters at IIT Madras Placements in 2016
All these start-ups together offered 137 offers to B. Tech Graduates at IIT Madras, out of which 116 students got placed.
Start-ups are still playing a significant role in the placements at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The first phase of placements was completed last week, and a total number of 176 participated in placements out of which 45 were start-ups. All these start-ups together made 137 offers, out of which 116 students got placed.
Similarly, the same number of start-ups visited the institute during the academic session 2014-15 and 118 students bagged jobs. However, in the academic session 2015-2016, a total number of 95 start-ups recruited 259 students, and the institute is expecting the same number of start-ups in 2016 as well.

The first phase of placements began at IIT Madras on December 1, 2016, with a 'graveyard session' which took place at 12:01 AM. Later, 14 sessions of interviews were conducted till December 13, 2016. A total number of 672 students secured jobs out of 1,195 registered candidates. On the other hand, a total number of 57 students have accepted pre-placement offers. Finally, 729 students got placed in the first phase of placements.

In 2016, the major start-ups that took part in the placements were:
- Noodle Analytics
- Citicorp Services
- Belcan
- Enfrein
- Myally
The other top recruiters this placement season were:
- Axis Bank
- Intel
- Samsung R&D, Bangalore
- EXl Services
- EY
A total number of nine students secured international offers. In 2016 alone, 90 companies are from R&D as well as core sectors. A total number of 43 companies are from Informational Technology or IT sector. Around 35 companies are from consulting and analytics wing.
